@schuth Bachelard, somewhere in The Poetics of Space, remarks (and I’m quoting from memory here) something to the effect that when we visit cellars in our dreams, we always descend the stairs, never ascend — whereas when we visit dream attics, we always ascend, never descend. (And he says this in the context that cellars contain the chthonic, Jungian collective unconscious, and the attic is home to our individualistic solitudes and reveries…)
