And just to re-emphasize part of my point: That, while self-reporting is certainly is a weakness under some circumstances, in the right context, self-reporting can actually be very revealing, even when it’s either unconsciously or deliberately false or mistaken. Like when the grownup enters the room and one of the kids immediately says, “I didn’t do it!” The grownup just learned something, there, despite the kids’ attempt at deception and denial.
